Spinning wheel of death.

I was using my macbook to render a short video from cinema 4d when the spinning color wheel appeared and i couldn't click on anything. I tried waiting however it did not dissapear and I am now unable to control anything or save my progress before I attempt to restart the computer.

Whould very much appreciate any help.
